MOTOROLA MVME333S-2 Embedded Controller
1. Power supply
MVME162 obtains working power through VMEbus backplane connectors P1 and P2.
P1: Provide basic bus signals and power supply.
P2: In addition to power supply, it also undertakes the following functions:
Data bits D16 to D31 during 32-bit data transmission;
High 8-bit address lines A24 to A31 in extended addressing mode.
Therefore, MVME162 must be connected to both P1 and P2 simultaneously, otherwise it may not function properly.
2. VMEbus data and address width
Regardless of MVME162 as:
VMEbus Master Device
VMEbus from device (Slave)
Its standard configuration is:
Project specifications
Address bus A32 (32-bit address)
Data bus D32 (32-bit data)
It supports:
Maximum 4GB address space
Transmitting 32-bit data at once
3. Compatibility with A16/A24 devices
Although MVME162 itself adopts the A32/D32 structure, it is still compatible with:
A16 equipment
A24 device
These devices will be mapped to specific address areas in the system (see Chapter 3 Memory Map in the manual for details).
The supported data widths include:
D8
D16
But when accessing these devices:
Byte and word access need to be processed by MC68040/MC68LC040 software
Hardware does not automatically convert all data widths
4. Local DRAM structure
MVME162 onboard shared DRAM (Dynamic RAM).
By default:
Project address
DRAM base address 0x0000000
This address is provided by:
MVME162 Bug Firmware (Boot Monitoring Program)
Initialize settings.

The onboard CPU is accessible
Other main devices on VMEbus can also access it
Can be remapped to any physical address through software
