The 3500/23E Transient Data Interface (TDI) serves as the primary interface between the 3500 ENCORE Machinery Protection System and GE’s System 1™ condition monitoring and diagnostic software. The TDI combines system monitoring functionality with the data acquisition capabilities of a communication processor, enabling comprehensive machinery health monitoring.

Installed in the System Monitor slot of a 3500 ENCORE rack, the TDI operates in conjunction with 3500/42E vibration monitors to continuously collect steady-state data and transient waveform data. Collected data is transmitted to the host system via an Ethernet connection for analysis, diagnostics, and long-term storage.

Static (steady-state) data capture is standard with the TDI. When equipped with an optional Channel Enabling Disk, the TDI also supports the acquisition of dynamic or transient waveform data, expanding its diagnostic capabilities. Compared to previous-generation communication processors, the TDI provides enhanced performance and functionality while integrating the Communication Processor role directly within the 3500 ENCORE rack.

In addition to Ethernet communications with System 1 software, the TDI provides extensive serial communication interfaces (RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485) to expose all monitored values and system status information. This enables seamless integration with process control systems, DCS, PLCs, and other automation platforms.

Each 3500 ENCORE rack requires one TDI module, which always occupies Slot 1, located adjacent to the rack power supplies.
